Okay, here we go again. New York approves same sex unions and opponents are making loud noises. I am going to shock people by saying that I really don't care.
First, it makes little difference if the majority wants to abide God's law by prohibiting gay "marriage." That has been clearly made evident by judicial rulings. We have allowed the judiciary exceptional powers to make our laws contrary to the Constitution's admonition of representation. They have and continue to dictate what will and will not be the law. We have become a nation of the minority, not the majority.
Second, is this issue worth our energy? A savvy battle commander will pick the time and place of his battles. Is fighting this issue the best way to defend the sanctity of the family? Our responsibility is to our family. Would our energy and resources be better used strengthening those we love that they can contend with and survive what is coming?
Third, gay unions are for selfish reasons (self-gratification). Now that they are gaining the "rights" attending defined marriage, they also reap the rewards of divorce, alimony, child support, custody battles, division of property, and the privilege of providing lawyers another source of income.
Fourth, God has said through his Prophets that in the last days, before the Second Coming of the Messiah, Satan will rule, and the earth will go to hell in a hand basket. (my interpretation, while LDS scripture paints a nicer picture - 2 Nephi 27.1-2)
Frankly, I don't see anything the majority is capable of doing to stem this progression short of a revolution starting with the reduction of power held in the judiciary. But then, Sean O'Connery's character in The Hunt For Red October made an interesting statement. "A revolution now and then may not be so bad."
As for me and my family, we will follow the Lord. As patriarch, it is my responsibility to see to the welfare and survival of my family. I will use my resources and energy to guide and protect my family in ways other than fighting a losing battle on the larger field. We will dig our trenches and hold our ground. It is not my place to save the world, but to preserve my family's place in the eternities with the Lord.
